Ulrike Langer
Freelance journalist / media analyst / trendscout
My passions are innovation, journalism and the USA. I have been living and working in the USA since 2011 and can combine these passions in an ideal way. My niche in journalism is spotting trends in the media industry that are emerging here in the US and that I believe are or will be relevant in Germany or the DACH countries - if not immediately, then at least as a foreshadowing on the horizon.

As a media journalist, I have reported on many trends early on over the years, which were often not taken seriously in German media companies at first. Later, future scenarios became self-evident and it is impossible to imagine the media landscape without them: Mobile media, blogs, social media, data journalism, video, podcasts, newsletters and now, of course, everything to do with artificial intelligence.

Given the rapid pace of innovation, my mission and expertise is to distinguish between short-term hypes or trends that are only relevant in the USA and developments with potential for new business models in German-speaking media markets. I utilize my excellent network of relevant contacts. I regularly analyze more than 100 US industry newsletters and stay up to date. I attend specialist conferences and introduce start-ups that are still unknown in Germany and whose ideas and strategies the German media industry can benefit from.

At the moment, I'm mainly working on new user-centered and AI-powered business models: Bundling, unbundling, verticals, newsletter strategies, personalization and how AI can be used effectively.

If you are also interested in these topics, why not subscribe to my new fortnightly newsletter “News Machines - AI tips from the USA for media makers” with lots of concrete tips, how-to instructions and best practice use cases.
